The Marina Operations position is responsible for the operation of the boat docks, fuel dock, trailer boat launch, supporting office staff with marina inventory management and other assigned outside operational duties in the highly dynamic and fast-paced environment at Cap Sante Marina. This position maintains a schedule that includes weekends, and holidays to ensure the best possible customer service is provided.


Your Day-to-Day: (Essential Functions) Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • Perform duties in a safe manner and assist in identifying and correcting potential hazards that could affect marina guests and tenants as well as other Port staff.
  • Provide outstanding, friendly customer service to all Port guests and tenants, including answering, responding to, and managing customer requests and inquiries in person, over a VHF radio, and telephone.
  • Educate customers to and ensure compliance with established Port and Marina best management practices, rules, and regulations.
  • Responsible for the routine safe operation of the Port's Fuel Dock, including opening and closing procedures, cash handling, and managing inventory and retail sales orders. Performs routine maintenance and troubleshooting such as fuel filter changes and identifying and reporting maintenance issues.
  • Responsible for the routine safe operation of the Trailer Boat Launch, including customer service, operating the 25,000 lb. hoist, performing daily required inspections, and processing cash and credit transactions.
  • Assists with maintaining accurate and current information regarding the status of each slip in conjunction with the office staff.
  • Complete daily reports to ensure efficient and effective marina-wide operations, including moorage inventory and electrical meter readings. Troubleshoot dockside electrical and stray current discrepancies, as necessary.
  • Assists with training and guidance on predetermined tasks to seasonal staff, including reporting absences, incidents and personnel issues to supervisor.
  • Assists with maintaining the Marina oil and waste recycling program, in accordance with State and Federal hazardous waste disposal requirements, ensuring timely pickup of used oil, diesel, filters, mixed fuel, and anti-freeze.
  • Responds to, contains, and cleans up hazmat spills and notifies emergency response, as needed. 
  • Operate equipment and tools required for daily marina operations, including portable pump-outs, net reels, T & P dock hoists, vehicles, forklifts, skiffs, and other equipment, as needed.
  • Perform routine maintenance and emergency repairs on Port owned facilities and equipment as directed.
  • Assists with maintaining outside gear storage area, ensuring a clean and neat appearance with proper gear documentation for billing.
  • Perform security checks throughout the marina and Port property, securing vessels not in good standing, as directed. Routinely check moored vessels for any noted discrepancies and notify owners as needed.
  • Perform janitorial service, as needed, throughout the Marina including cleaning the restrooms, outside waste management, and ensuring the overall cleanliness of Marina.
  • Respond to and call for emergency response to fire, police, medical, and environmental incidences as needed, coordinating between the Port and the appropriate emergency service.
  • Present a professional, clean, neat, well-groomed appearance in the Port provided uniform.
  • Must be able to work weekends and holidays.
  • Perform other duties, responsibilities, and special projects as assigned.


What You Need to Bring to the Team: (KSAOs)

  • [Education/Experience] High School diploma or GED plus two years' experience in port operations or maintenance-related field
  • [Core Competencies] Possess the following competencies: teamwork orientation, stress management/composure, & ethical conduct
  • [Computer & Other Skills] Excellent customer service, multitasking, and communication skills.
  • [Certifications/Licenses/Registrations] Complete and maintain required certifications on Forklift operation, fire extinguishers, Class A/B UST Operator, HAZWOPER, CPR, respirator fit. Maintain a valid Washington state driver's license and boater education card and operate Port boats, forklifts, and other emergency equipment as required.
  • [Physical Demands] Physical ability to perform all essential functions of the job including climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, fingering, grasping, talking, and hearing. Ability to exert up to 20 pounds of force on occasion. This includes the ability and stamina to stand, respond quickly, and walk 5-10 miles a day for up to 4 hours at a time; navigate uneven, slippery, or wet surfaces often over or near water; traverse rough terrain; work on or over water; work at heights; climb stairs and ladders; hear, speak, and understand the spoken English word; read and understand directions in English; see and adjust focus at close distances, far distances, and in varying light conditions, as well as perceive depth and color; sit at and use a computer workstation; carry out repetitive motion with wrists, and hands, and fingers; ability to lift or carry up to 50 pounds, often lifting weight overhead; crouch, kneel, twist, stoop, reach, bend, pivot, climb, and/or work in tight or confined areas; ability and dexterity to push and pull with upper arms, forearms, and hands; move arms in unison from side-to-side and up-and-down with full range of motion; hear alarms and audibly identify dangers or hazards; ability to climb stairs and ladders.
  • [Work Environment] Ability to work in both inside and outside environmental conditions, subject to extreme cold for periods of more than one hour, as well ability to function in narrow aisles or passageways.
  • [Other Requirements] Following an offer of employment and prior to starting work, pass a background check
